The Story Behind Every Bottle — Egyptian Handmade Glass

Every piece from MISHKAH begins as a single breath. A gather of molten glass, a turn of the pipe, and a shape that did not exist a moment before.

In a world of moulds and machines, our artisans still work with hands and lungs alone. There is no template to follow — only the eye, and thirty years of knowing what the glass will do next.

A dance of fire and breath

Inside the Cairo workshop the glass is heated past a thousand degrees until it glows and softens. With a steady breath the artisan draws out a neck, rounds a body, forms a stopper.

Then the gold. Real 24-karat gold, painted on by hand in fine detail and fired into the surface in the kiln. It does not sit on the glass — it becomes part of it. That is why it will not peel, and why it will still be there in a generation.

Every curve, every line of gold, carries the hand that made it.

A tradition passed down

This craft is not new here. Cairo has been shaping glass since the Fatimid caliphs, and the techniques in our workshop came down the same way they always have — from one pair of hands to the next.

What we have added is design, not method. The forms are contemporary; the making is not.

Every artisan leaves a mark without meaning to. No two pieces are ever alike.

Why the variations matter

A small bubble. A colour that leans warmer than its neighbour. A ruffle that pleats differently every time.

These are not defects to be corrected. They are the evidence that a person made this — the one thing a machine can never counterfeit, and the reason the piece is worth keeping.

Made with purpose

Luxury here is not about perfection. It is about authenticity — that what you were told about the object is true.

Every piece is blown to order in one Cairo atelier by the same named hands, packed to survive the journey, and insured to your door. If it arrives damaged, we replace it free.
